Dear fellow believer isnít it true the most certain thing in life is death, but the most uncertain thing is when. We are now going to find Bible verses about funerals. Let's see what the Word of God says about funerals. I believe that through Godís Word He will speak to us.

KJV = King James Version (1769)BBE = Bible in Basic English (1949/1964)GW = GOD'S WORD TranslationAMP = Amplified Bible

Genesis 3:19:

BBE With the hard work of your hands you will get your bread till you go back to the earth from which you were taken: for dust you are and to the dust you will go back.GW By the sweat of your brow, you will produce food to eat until you return to the ground, because you were taken from it. You are dust, and you will return to dust."AMP In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.

Ecclesiastes 7:2:

KJV It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.GW It is better to go to a funeral than to a banquet because that is where everyone will end up. Everyone who is alive should take this to heart! AMP It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to heart.

Ecclesiastes 7:4:

KJV The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. BBE The hearts of the wise are in the house of weeping; but the hearts of the foolish are in the house of joy.GW The minds of wise people think about funerals, but the minds of fools think about banquets.AMP The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth {and} sensual joy.

I Thessalonians 5:10:

KJV Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.BBE Who was put to death for us, so that, awake or sleeping, we may have a part in his life.GW He died for us so that, whether we are awake in this life or asleep in death, we will live together with him.AMP Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or are dead [at Christ's appearing], we might live together with Him {and} share His life.

I Corinthians 15:54-57

KJV So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. BBE But when this has taken place, then that which was said in the Writings will come true, Death is overcome by life. O death, where is your power? O death, where are your pains? The pain of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law: But praise be to God who gives us strength to overcome through our Lord Jesus Christ.GW When this body that decays is changed into a body that cannot decay, and this mortal body is changed into a body that will live forever, then the teaching of Scripture will come true: "Death is turned into victory! Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?" Sin gives death its sting, and God's standards give sin its power. Thank God that he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.AMP And when this perishable puts on the imperishable and this that was capable of dying puts on freedom from death, then shall be fulfilled the Scripture that says, Death is swallowed up (utterly vanquished forever) in {and} unto victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? Now sin is the sting of death, and sin exercises its power [upon the soul] through [the abuse of] the Law. But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 4:25:

KJV Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.BBE Who was put to death for our evil-doing, and came to life again so that we might have righteousness. GW Jesus, our Lord, was handed over to death because of our failures and was brought back to life so that we could receive God's approval. AMP Who was betrayed {and} put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God].

Looking at these verses we see that God has created us from dust and so we shall return to dust. But we see that a funeral is a better place to be than a banquet. Why? A funeral is a start of a new life, an eternal life in and with Christ. Looking back at all the funerals I have attended, I realize that their death was only the beginning not the end. Through Jesus' death on the cross we can receive the gift of eternal life.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
