Take a look at our Bible Verses For the Terminally Ill
Dear fellow believer, this is one of the most difficult subjects to write about. But we can take comfort in the Word of God. We are now going to look at bible verses for the terminally ill.
AKJV = American King James VersionASV = American Standard Version (1901)BBE = Bible in Basic English (1949/1964)GW = GOD'S WORD Translation
When we think about terminal illness, faith and fear comes to mind. Faith - that we will live. Fear - that we will die.
Job 3:25ASV - For the thing which I fear cometh upon me, And that which I am afraid of cometh unto me.BBE - For I have a fear and it comes on me, and my heart is greatly troubled. GW - What I fear most overtakes me. What I dread happens to me.
Faith and fear are equal in dimension: both demand to be fulfilled.
Hebrews 11:1ASV - Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.BBE - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the sign that the things not seen are true.GW - Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.
Fear is the substance of things not hoped for and the evidence of the things not yet seen. Faith is God's future for you. Fear is Satan's destruction of your faith and at the end your future.
Hebrews 11:6AKJV - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.BBE - And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for him.GW - No one can please God without faith. Whoever goes to God must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Psalms 41:3:ASV - Jehovah will support him upon the couch of languishing: Thou makest all his bed in his sickness.BBE - The Lord will be his support on his bed of pain: by you will all his grief be turned to strength.GW - The LORD will support him on his sickbed. You will restore this person to health when he is ill.
Proverbs 13:12:ASV - Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.BBE - Hope put off is a weariness to the heart; but when what is desired comes, it is a tree of life.GW - Delayed hope makes one sick at heart, but a fulfilled longing is a tree of life.
Philippians 2:27:AKJV - For indeed he was sick near to death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow on sorrow.BBE - For in fact he was ill almost to death: but God had mercy on him; and not only on him but on me, so that I might not have grief on grief.GW - Indeed, he was so sick that he almost died. But God had mercy not only on him but also on me and kept me from having one sorrow on top of another.
James 5:14-16ASV - Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him. Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working. BBE - Is anyone among you ill? let him send for the rulers of the church; and let them say prayers over him, putting oil on him in the name of the Lord. And by the prayer of faith the man who is ill will be made well, and he will be lifted up by the Lord, and for any sin which he has done he will have forgiveness. So then, make a statement of your sins to one another, and say prayers for one another so that you may be made well. The prayer of a good man is full of power in its working. GW - If you are sick, call for the church leaders. Have them pray for you and anoint you with olive oil in the name of the Lord. (Prayers offered in faith will save those who are sick, and the Lord will cure them.) If you have sinned, you will be forgiven. So admit your sins to each other, and pray for each other so that you will be healed. Prayers offered by those who have God's approval are effective.
Matthew 8:17:AKJV - That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses. BBE - So that the word of Isaiah the prophet might come true: He himself took our pains and our diseases.GW - So what the prophet Isaiah had said came true: "He took away our weaknesses and removed our diseases.
Isaiah 53:5:AKJV - But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was on him; and with his stripes we are healed.ASV - But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.BBE - But it was for our sins he was wounded, and for our evil doings he was crushed: he took the punishment by which we have peace, and by his wounds we are made well. GW - He was wounded for our rebellious acts. He was crushed for our sins. He was punished so that we could have peace, and we received healing from his wounds.
Dear friend, reading through the Bible I have come to the conclusion that God is in all good. I believe that God doesn't want his children to be sick or to suffer. God is in the healing business, not in the killing business. But we must remember Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life throug Jesus Christ our Lord.Jesus Christ died for our souls and earthly bodies. He took upon Him all our sins and sickness. He wants us to live in faith for Him. Keep the faith.
Matthew 4:24: The news about Jesus spread throughout Syria. People brought him everyone who was sick, those who suffered from any kind of disease or pain. They also brought epileptics, those who were paralyzed, and people possessed by demons, and he cured them all.
