Dear fellow believer let us see what the Bible tells us about parents.

KJV - King James Version
BBE - Bible in Basic English (1949/1964)
GW - GOD'S WORD Translation
AMP - Amplified Bible

Deuteronomy 8:5:

KJV Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
BBE Keep in mind this thought, that as a son is trained by his father, so you have been trained by the Lord your God.
GW Learn this lesson by heart: The LORD your God was disciplining you as parents discipline their children.
AMP Know also in your [minds and] hearts that, as a man disciplines {and} instructs his son, so the Lord your God disciplines {and} instructs you.

Proverbs 17:6:

KJV Children' children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
BBE Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their fathers.
GW Grandchildren are the crown of grandparents, and parents are the glory of their children.
AMP Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their fathers.

II Corinthians 12:14:

KJV Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
BBE This is now the third time that I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a trouble to you: my desire is for you, not for your property: for it is not the children's business to make store for their fathers, but the fathers for the children.
GW I'm ready to visit you for a third time, and I won't bother you for help. I don't want your possessions. Instead, I want you. Children shouldn't have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children.
AMP Now for the third time I am ready to come to [visit] you. And I will not burden you [financially], for it is not your [money] that I want but you; for children are not duty bound to lay up store for their parents, but parents for their children.

Ephesians 6:1-3

KJV Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
BBE Children, do what is ordered by your fathers and mothers in the Lord: for this is right. Give honour to your father and mother (which is the first rule having a reward), So that all may be well for you, and your life may be long on the earth.
GW Children, obey your parents because you are Christians. This is the right thing to do. "Honor your father and mother that everything may go well for you, and you may have a long life on earth." This is an important commandment with a promise.
AMP CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother--this is the first commandment with a promise-- That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.

Colossians 3:20:

KJV Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
BBE Children, do the orders of your fathers and mothers in all things, for this is pleasing to the Lord.
GW Children, always obey your parents. This is pleasing to the Lord.
AMP Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.

I Timothy 5:4:

KJV But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
BBE But if any widow has children or children's children, let these see that it is right to take care of their family and their fathers and mothers: for this is pleasing in the eyes of God.
GW The children or grandchildren of a widow must first learn to respect their own family by repaying their parents. This is pleasing in God's sight.
AMP But if a widow has children or grandchildren, see to it that these are first made to understand that it is their religious duty [to defray their natural obligation to those] at home, and make return to their parents {or} grandparents [for all their care by contributing to their maintenance], for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

Looking at these verses we see that we must obey our parents, because it pleases God. We must obey them as long as it is not against God's word.
