KJV - King James Version
BBE - Bible in Basic English (1949/1964)
GW - GOD'S WORD Translation
AMP - Amplified Bible

Titus 2:2:

KJV That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
BBE That old men are to be simple in their tastes, serious, wise, true in faith, in love, and of a quiet mind.
GW Tell older men to be sober. Tell them to be men of good character, to use good judgment, and to be well-grounded in faith, love, and endurance.
AMP Urge the older men to be temperate, venerable (serious), sensible, self-controlled, and sound in the faith, in the love, and in the steadfastness {and} patience [of Christ].

I Timothy 3:8:

KJV Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
BBE Deacons, in the same way, are to be serious in their behaviour, not false in word, not given to taking much wine or greatly desiring the wealth of this world;
GW Deacons must also be of good character. They must not be two-faced or addicted to alcohol. They must not use shameful ways to make money.
AMP In like manner the deacons [must be] worthy of respect, not shifty {and} double-talkers {but} sincere in what they say, not given to much wine, not greedy for base gain [craving wealth and resorting to ignoble and dishonest methods of getting it].

I Timothy 3:11:

KJV Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
BBE Women are to be serious in behaviour, saying no evil of others, controlling themselves, true in all things.
GW Their wives must also be of good character. They must not be gossips, but they must control their tempers and be trustworthy in every way.
AMP [The] women likewise must be worthy of respect {and} serious, not gossipers, but temperate {and} self-controlled, [thoroughly] trustworthy in all things.

Ephesians 4:22:

KJV That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
BBE That you are to put away, in relation to your earlier way of life, the old man, which has become evil by love of deceit;
GW You were taught to change the way you were living. The person you used to be will ruin you through desires that deceive you.
AMP Strip yourselves of your former nature [put off and discard your old unrenewed self] which characterized your previous manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts {and} desires that spring from delusion;

I Corinthians 15:33:

KJV Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
BBE Do not be tricked by false words: evil company does damage to good behaviour.
GW Don't let anyone deceive you. Associating with bad people will ruin decent people.
AMP Do not be so deceived {and} misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt {and} deprave good manners {and} morals {and} character.

Romans 5:4:

KJV And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
BBE And waiting gives experience; and experience, hope:
GW endurance creates character, and character creates confidence.
AMP And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.

Proverbs 31:10:

KJV Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
BBE Who may make discovery of a woman of virtue? For her price is much higher than jewels.
GW "Who can find a wife with a strong character? She is worth far more than jewels.
AMP A capable, intelligent, {and} virtuous woman--who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels {and} her value is far above rubies {or} pearls.

Proverbs 12:4:

KJV A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
BBE A woman of virtue is a crown to her husband; but she whose behaviour is a cause of shame is like a wasting disease in his bones.
GW A wife with strength of character is the crown of her husband, but the wife who disgraces him is like bone cancer.
AMP A virtuous {and} worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband, but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

We see that we as Christians should be earnest and strong in character. Remember, associating with bad people will ruin decent people.
